Kabloom

About Kabloom

Kabloom is a daily trivia game about a sleepy volcano. Every day there are seven new questions, the same for everyone, and you can never give the same answer twice. The first questions are easy; the trick is that the answer everyone gives early is the one they'll need later. One wrong answer and it erupts. It takes a few minutes, it's free, and it works in any browser, no app needed.

Who makes it

Kabloom is made by Thomas Bijvoets, an independent developer. There's no tracking of our own: your streak and stats live in your browser unless you sign in. The free daily is paid for by ads and by players who buy Kabloom Unlimited.

Where the answers come from

Behind the volcano are lists of things most people have heard of: the 193 United Nations member states plus Vatican City, the Walt Disney Animation, Pixar and Marvel Cinematic Universe films, the best-known game consoles and sports, hundreds of hand-checked famous people from history, and tens of thousands more of the world's best-known people, films, shows, songs, books, brands and places.

Country facts come from the CIA World Factbook and the open world-countries data set; the hand-made lists of films, consoles, sports and people are checked against their Wikipedia articles and the sources they cite. The big list comes from Wikidata, the free database behind Wikipedia, ranked by how many Wikipedia languages cover each thing.

How a day is built

Every day is written by hand around one trap. The early questions have lots of right answers, but nearly everyone reaches for the same famous one. The later questions have only a few right answers, and that famous one is among them. The last question has exactly one right answer: the one most people already gave. Every right answer on the lists counts, not just the famous ones, and every day has a way to get all seven.

After a day is over everywhere, it's explained question by question, so you can see the right answers and where the trap was.

Found a mistake?

Trivia is only fun when it's fair. If you think an answer was wrongly refused, email support@kabloom.io with the daily's number and the answer, and we'll check it.
